Dos Boot: The Baseplate That Gives You More
Dos Boot: The Baseplate That Gives You More

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t always get the spotlight in the gear world: magazine base plates. Most shooters slap 'em on and forget about it. But every once in a while, someone makes a product that quietly does more than expected — and that’s exactly what Die Free Co did with the Dos Boot, a no-nonsense PMAG enhanced base plate upgrade that solves a few problems at once.
I picked one up on a whim, mostly out of curiosity, and let me tell you — this thing isn’t just an upgrade. It’s a small piece of gear that goes above and beyond when accuracy is essential.
Two More Rounds Never Hurt
First off, the obvious: Dos Boot gives you a +2 mag extension. That’s two more rounds in the mag without adding additional bulk. No funky springs or finicky screws for installation. Just a clean and simple design that works right out of the gate. I tested it on the bench for zeroing and offhand while on the range. Needless to say, it fed smoothly through every mag change and drill I could imagine, no hiccups whatsoever. When demonstrating drills, having as much ammo on me streamlines the day.
If I’m being honest, having those two extra rounds feels like the cherry on top — not a “game changer" per se, but sure as heck not something I’m going to complain about. The best part is they sell them in a pack of 3 in either black or medium coyote tan.
Surprise! Monopod Bonus!?
Now here’s the part that really caught me off guard: the built-in monopod function. I didn’t even realize how useful that was until I dropped down in the prone demo’ing proper positioning and I ended up using the actual magazine for support. Dos Boot’s design gives just enough extra surface area, a textured grip, and height to make your rear support rock solid — similar to using a rear bag without the hassle of actually using one.
You’d be pretty surprised how much steadier it makes your rifle when you’re getting mounted for a precision shot or trying to zero the new optic. That feature alone earns it a permanent spot in my teaching bag. They designed the Dos Boot specifically with 20-round mags in mind. The idea is aimed to get as low to the ground as possible but still not so low that your rifle grip touches the dirt. Even though it’s originally designed for 20-rounders in mind, it's still right at home on 10, 30, and even 40-round magazines.

Easier Reloads, Even With Gloves
One of those things you don’t appreciate until it’s right in front of you: reloads feel more consistent. The added grip from the texturing on the baseplate helps you develop consistent contact with the mag while reloading. Regardless whether with gloves or simply bare, sweaty hands, you’re not going to fumble around. It’s got a natural and solid feel, like it belongs there — which, after using it for a few weeks, it definitely does. When “hot-swapping” (tac mag) a partial to a full magazine, having that texture makes sure nothing is going to slip.
Built Like It Should Be
Construction-wise, even though it feels extremely lightweight, this thing is tough. I’ve dropped it on everything possible ranging from gravel, indoor range flooring as well as even accidentally stepping on it in the garage. I ended up even kicking it across the truck bed when it slid out of my range bag. Even after all the luggage folk at airports throwing it around, still solid. Still snug. Still running.
The Bottom line? The Dos Boot isn’t just some fancy add-on. It’s a smart, functional, overbuilt PMAG upgrade that adds +2 rounds, works as a monopod, and makes reloads smoother. It’s one of those pieces of gear you end up installing once — and then wonder why every other magazine doesn’t already come this way. Plus, who doesn’t want to simply just have more rounds on them?
